"I believe in a Real Alternative to the 'politics as usual'of the other parties, which neglect the rights offuture generations - our children and grandchildren."
Susan organised the Lewes Peace March in 2003 againstthe attack on Iraq - she believes that wars will not bring about thepeaceful, secure world we long to create.
Susan says "The Green Party is totally opposed to the incineratorand I spoke in favour of a Zero Waste policy at thepublic inquiry into the Waste Local Plan.
"I demand Real Action on Global Warming -we face acrisis far greater than even the Lewes floods in 2000."
"The Green Party stands for socialjustice, a peaceful future and aplanet worth living on.
I am committed, as a member of the Green Party, to social justice, environmental and economic sustainability and peace. The grey parties all pay lip service to these ideals but only the Green Party has the policies in place to deliver this better world and only the Green Party has the honesty and integrity to defend these values in the face of vested interests whose main concern is to deliver a profit in the short term. The grey parties are becoming ever more indistinguishable in their support of neo-liberal economics- which favours the rich and powerful rather than the common good. It is vital for the future of planet and people that the Green Party puts a strong case for real progress at the forthcoming general election."
Caroline Lucas, Green Party Member of the European Parliament for the South East and the party's Principal female speaker said: "I'm delighted that Susan has been selected as the Green Party's prospective candidate for the Lewes constituency. I'm sure she will be an excellent candidate who will communicate the Green message with clarity and conviction. More and more people are voting Green as they realise the importance and urgency of policies that put the environment and social justice at the top of the political agenda. I'm sure Susan's work in the General Election will accelerate this process".
Keith Taylor, Brighton City Councillor and Principal male speaker for the Green Party said: "Over a million people voted Green in June's european elections and we're now planning to build on that vote. Every single Green vote tells parliament that their "business as usual" politics is failing to provide the economic, social and environmental justice the country needs. We need strong Green voices at Westminster and Susan Murray is an excellent choice to represent Lewes People."
Town Councillor Simon Anderson, the first elected member of the Greens in Lewes added his comments thus: "I'm very pleased that Susan will take our case forward at the General Election. The Green Party outpolled Labour in June's euro elections by over 1,000 votes here in Lewes District and we will seek to build new support during the campaign to come. We also beat Labour in the neighbouring areas of Brighton, Mid Sussex and Wealden back in June. There's lots to do but we will work hard to win people's votes. Unlike certain other parties our morale is high."
