Joseph Healy - Solidarity with Budapest Pride

In reaction to Budapest Pride (this year, from 30 Aug to 6 Sept) being attacked in 2008, the LGBT group of the Greens are keen to show their support for this important event in Hungary.
Joseph Healy, International Officer for LGBT Greens, and parliamentary candidate for Vauxhall, said:
"The European Union and Hungary face one of their stiffest tests this coming weekend with the holding of Budapest Pride. The recent European elections showed a large increase in the Far Right vote in Hungary and there have been visible signs of their increasing influence. Last year Budapest Pride witnessed disgraceful scenes when far Right thugs attacked LGBT marchers."
"Along with Whoopi Goldberg, who has made a supportive video for the event, and 13 embassies in Hungary, I give my full support and that of the Green Party to those taking part in Budapest Pride. I hope that all goes well and that the Hungarian authorities and Budapest police do all they can to ensure that the event passes off peacefully. There is no room for homophobic violence in Hungary and in the new states of the European Union."
