Greens pay tribute to councillor after tragic death
12 May 2010
Leading Greens today paid tribute to Cllr Phil Gordon, a Green Party member of Leicester City Council.
Cllr Gordon died yesterday in Leicester Royal Infirmary after an accident at work.
Speaking from Westminster today during her first day as Britain's first Green MP, party leader Caroline Lucas said: “This is very sad news. On behalf of the whole of the Green Party I’d like to send our condolences, our sympathies and our good wishes to Phil’s family, friends and colleagues.”
Matt Follett, former Green councillor in Leicester, and current member of the party's national executive, said: "Phil was not just a colleague, but a real friend. He was one of the nicest men I've ever met, not just in politics but in wider life. He was one of the few people I knew who got on with everybody. He was an inspiration in how he conducted himself in his public role and was very proud to serve his ward. It's very sad for his family, and for us all."
