Darren Johnson - Potential Tory clash over climate funding

Darren Johnson, in an article for the Guardian's commentisfree pages, has pointed out that the Mayor of London may clash with an incoming Conservative government, in trying to meet his climate change targets. Mayor Boris Johnson is committed to a switch to low-carbon vehicles by 2018, decentralised energy schemes between now and 2015, plans to improve the energy efficiency of London homes, and mayoral air pollution initiatives within the capital.

Darren Johnson commented that: "Boris Johnson will need to lobby very hard to receive this amount of funding, if London is to stand a chance of getting to the 60% target in the way he has mapped out. The reality is that the government may not come up with the money, which could be an embarrassing moment for the relationship between Johnson and David Carmeron. It would force the mayor to either backtrack on his environmental ambitions, or to look more closely at what his own organisation can deliver through more radical policies, such as road charging and traffic reduction."
