Greens push through 5% barrier
29 December 2006
A national poll placed the Green Party at 5% today, pushing the party into direct competition with the Lib Dems, Tories and Labour.
The poll, conducted for the Independent, is one of a string of polls that has been showing rising support for the Green Party over the last 18 months.
Green Party Principal Speaker Siân Berry said:
"People want real, practical solutions to climate change, and a better quality of life, and they know the Greens are the way to get that. That's why they're turning to us in ever increasing numbers.
"With 92 Councillors, two Greens on the London Assembly and two in the European Parliament, we've proved we're electable. It's only a matter of time before we see the first Green MPs, and see the Greens really freshen up British politics."
