Greens condemn government stance on firefighters strike
16 September 2002
Penny Kemp, chair of Green Party excutive commented that the 'demands' were necessary for safe working practises. She stated: "In their bid to secure a fair and appropriate pay award and safer working conditions, the firefighters are fully justified in resorting to strike action."
"It is an utter disgrace that such an essential and dedicated public service feels so undervalued by the government that they see striking as their only hope"
"These are people who potentially put their lives on the line every day in order to protect our homes and communities."
The Green Party urge all local authorities to listen to the Fire Brigades Union and give firefighters the pay award and improved working conditions they deserve."
