ComRes Survey of Green Party councillors: No to Trident and any deal with the Conservatives

24 March 2015

* No Green councillors would join a Conservative-led coalition in the event of a hung parliament

* All Green Party councillors believe the top level of income tax should be over 45%

* 96% of Green councillors do not want Trident renewed

A ComRes survey of 56 Green Party councillors for the BBC has revealed that no Green councillors would want to join a Conservative-led coalition in the event of a hung parliament.

The survey, conducted online between 27th February and 20th March 2015, also revealed that 96% of Green Party councillors think Britain would be better off as a country if Trident was not renewed, and that all Green Party councilors surveyed believe the top level of income tax should be over 45%.

Cllr Andrew Cooper, who appeared on the BBC’s Daily Politics (1) show today to discuss the findings, said:

“The Daily Politics survey of Green Party councillors reflects the views of members in the wider party: overwhelming opposition to the £100 billion Trident missile replacement programme, a rejection of any deals with the Conservatives and a belief that the rich should pay more tax.”

The Green Party, the third largest political party in England and Wales with over 57,000 members, approaches the General Election polling at its highest levels in a generation and on track to break politics wide open via the ballot box on May 7th.

ENDS.
