Greens support clean energy companies
05 October 2005
Shocking new figures, released under a Europe-wide directive forcing energy providers to reveal how polluting their electricity is, offer homeowners a chance to show their commitment to tackling climate change.
Penny Kemp, Green Party Environment, Food and Rural Affairs spokesperson commented: "Making a decision to change electricity supplier, from highly polluting to renewables-based, is made easier by the new directive, allowing people with hitherto passive green intentions to make a difference and use consumer power to force a change in energy sourcing.
"There are companies that have made a real effort to source from environmentally sound technologies and this will only become a trend if people start to reject those that still rely on dirty energy.
"If the government will not force a shift to clean energy through legislation, the public can through consumer power".
