Green Party conference supports strike for pensions
The Green Party conference has voted to promote party support for the nine
trades unions that voted to strike to protect the local government pension
scheme for existing members.
Proposing an emergency motion, Mark Douglas, of Hackney Green Party, called
on the party's executive to send a public message of support to up to one
million trades unions members planning an initial strike on March 28, 2006.
"The Green Party supports this campaign," he said, "and deplores the Labour
government's disgraceful betrayal of pension rights due to millions of
workers."
