Party People: Young Greens put the Party into politics

"I chose the Green Party because it is the only party that cares about the issues that matter to thousands of young people like me"

At their spring conference in Scarborough, the Green Party announced the formation of their new youth and student body, Young Greens.

Addressing the conference, 17 year old Young Green spokesperson Ros Leeming declared, "The Green Party has a unique appeal. It's the only party telling the truth about things like globalisation, animal rights and the environment: issues that matter to young people. "

Young Greens came together in a bid to get more young people turned on to politics. In launching their recruitment drive, Young Greens also called for the voting age to be lowered to 16.

Said Ros, "The Green Party is mature enough not to tell sixteen year olds that they're too young to know what's politically important, or too young to express their choices as adults."

She continued, "I chose the Green Party because it is the only party that cares about the issues that matter to thousands of young people like me. Obviously, others are like-minded, because as membership of other political parties is declining, the Green Party has increased its membership by 25%."
