18 April 2004
Green party activists called on Tony Blair to slop the slaughter of Iraqicivilians in an emergency protest at the escalation of violence outside TonyBlair's official residence in Downing Street on Saturday (April 17th).
The demonstration, which was organised by the Muslim Association of Britain(MAB) and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) was called after itemerged more than 350 women and children had been killed during the USassault on Fallujah in recent days.
London's Green Party MEP Jean Lambert, who attended the demonstration, said:"Iraq is in chaos thanks in part to Blair's decision to take us to war onthe basis of lies and deceit - and in the face of clearly expressed publicopposition.
"The humanitarian costs of this war are rising sharply, both inside Iraq andamongst Muslims here in the UK - who are increasingly being seen asterrorism suspects by the Government, the media and even the police."
A CND spokesperson warned the rising death toll and escalation of violencewould not end until hostilities ceased, calling for the immediate withdrawalof troops and a peaceful resolution to be brokered by the UN.
