Greens launch English local election campaign

14 April 2011

At 6:45pm, on Thursday 14th April, the Green Party will launch its 2011 local elections campaign for England.

The event, at the Charlotte Street Hotel in London, will have the first screening of their party election broadcast, and a Q&A session with the party's leader, Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton Pavilion.

The party election broadcast will focus on the lack of trust that the public has in both politics and politicians, and how we can start to rebuild that trust. It will also talk about how Green councillors and council candidates across England are fighting against the coalition government's cuts, and putting forward innovative solutions to make a difference at the local level.

Chief amongst these has been the Warm Zone scheme in Kirklees to provide free wall and loft insulation to over 50 000 homes. This was achieved through a budget amendment put by Andrew Cooper, a Green councillor, who then helped designed the scheme, and it has been used as a model in proposals to the Scottish government, and currently in Leeds. Also in attendance with Caroline will be Jenny Jones, Green candidate for London Mayor in 2012.
