Green Party Pays Tribute to Gayle O'Donovan

Gayle O'Donovan

Green Party members have been paying tribute to Gayle O'Donovan, a former member of the party's national executive, who died last weekend.

Gayle served as Local Party Support Co-ordinator for the Green Party from September 2010 to December 2011. Prior to that she was a General Election candidate and leading activist in Manchester and, after moving to Norwich in June 2011, became a key figure in Norwich Green Party, working as its Co-ordinator since November 2011. Gayle also worked with a wide variety of campaigns in the wider green movement, such as the grassroots group opposing the expansion of Manchester Airport.

Green Party Leader Caroline Lucas MP said: "Gayle was a highly valued colleague and the tragic news of her untimely death comes as a shock to us all. Gayle was always full of energy and passion and provided tremendous support to local Green Parties around the country when she was on the national executive. The Green Party, the wider green movement and everyone who knew Gayle will miss her greatly."

Green Party Deputy Leader Adrian Ramsay, who worked closely with Gayle on the national party executive and in Norwich, said: "I've only known Gayle for just over a year but in that time she has become a close colleague and friend. It's difficult to believe that someone with such passion, energy and kindness has been taken from us. Gayle has left a tremendous legacy and precious memories for all who knew her, especially the colleagues and friends she supported through her work in the Green Party - nationally, in Manchester and in Norwich. The Green Party and the wider green movement are mourning the loss of a dedicated campaigner and a very special person."

Green Party members and friends and family of Gayle have been leaving tributes to her on Facebook and on the Hulme Green Party (Manchester) blog: http://hulmegreenparty.blogspot.com/2012/01/gayle-odonovan-tribute-page.html
