Gina Dowding

Gina Dowding is a city councillor and a cabinet member on Lancaster City Council. Until recently she worked for the NHS as a Health Promotion Specialist (for 12 years) which was a non-clinical post. This work involves health development advice and she has worked in a number of settings including universities and prisons. Gina has worked in conjunction with the Healthy Cities Office of the World Health Organisation.

Gina is strongly committed to the values, aims and policies of the Green Party. She is an active member of her local Green Party and her experience of being a member of Lancaster City Council has given her a sound understanding of the political process. She has acquired a public profile in the district and perhaps further afield.

During the past 15 years Gina has been an active election campaigner for local elections, developing good electioneering skills, including canvassing, writing appropriate election material, public speaking. She is a member of the Association of Green Councillors.

Gina has special cabinet member responsibility for External Affairs on Lancaster City Council which includes communication, partnerships, consultation with the community, and chairing the LA21 Steering group and the Local Strategic Partnership, which has a membership of 40 from the public, voluntary, community and private sectors

Gina is particularly interested in global justice and addressing the balance of inequalities between peoples within localities, countries and regions. These interests are particularly pertinent as the European Union goes through its process of enlargement. MEPs will have to work to reduce inequalities across the European Union and to speak out against protectionist policies that would mean injustice for people beyond the boundaries of the Union.
