Ann Were
Ann has been a member of Wales Green Party since 2001 and has been a candidate in several elections since joining.
Between January 2006 and December 2007 she was Party Leader and was also the lead list candidate for the South Wales East region in the 2007 Welsh assembly elections. She has also stood in local elections and is currently a Town Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Monmouth.
Campaigning for the environment
Ann is involved in a number of campaigns and community groups.
- She sits on the Transition Monmouth steering group. They are working towards making Monmouth a 'transition town' (part of a network of communities across the UK responding locally to the challenges presented by Climate Change and Peak Oil).
- She is involved with the CALM campaign which is fighting an M4 bypass being built on the Gwent levels.
- She is involved with the Stop the Barrage NOW campaign
- She is working to improve allotment provision within Monmouth.
Ann has an honours degree in Environmental Studies as well as a nursing qualification. She is passionate about changing our environmentally and socially damaging lifestyles through the political system.
As a member of the European Parliament she would work with other Greens to make sure the right decisions are made for our environment and for Wales.
