Nic Best
Nic Best was a councillor on Castle Morpeth Borough Council from 1999 until its abolition in April this year. He has been on Morpeth Town Council since 1997.
He is also:
- Chairman of Northumberland Credit Union
- Chairman of North East England Farmers Markets
- Chairman of Morpeth Fairtrade Forum
- Director of Greater Morpeth Development Trust
- Policy officer for North East Combined Transport Activists Roundtable.
His day-job is as Regional Policy Officer for the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).
It's Not Just The Environment
In ten years as a local councillor, Nic has shown that Greens are not ‘just about the environment'.
He has:
- championed farmers' markets both locally and nationally
- relaunched the Morpeth Wednesday Market
- campaigned successfully for local rail service improvements
- won £250,000 in council grants for home insulation in 2008-09
- helped get the other parties to work together effectively.
