Peter Lynn
Peter Lynn works as a researcher at the University of Essex. He lives in Colchester with his wife and two sons. He is an active member of several local community groups and a keen promoter of cycling.
Much of Peter's work involves international collaboration. He has worked for 12 years on the European Social Survey, a research project involving 34 countries. He has acted as advisor to the European Central Bank and to the EU Fundamental Rights Agency. He has spoken at EU seminars in Brussels.
32% Green in Colchester
Peter has been a candidate in the last three Colchester Borough Council elections. In this time, the Green vote has increased from 8% to 32% in his ward. This reflects Peter's hard work. Peter has stood up for local people on a range of issues. He has:
- fought to improve public transport and bring down fares
- opposed building on green sites in the town
- encouraged support for local businesses
- worked to improve routes for walking and cycling.
Re-Focussing the EU
We need a European Union. Nations should talk to their neighbours, help each other and try to understand each other. But the EU has lost its way. It must become more democratic. It should not meddle in matters best dealt with by national governments. It should instead focus on issues that do not respect national borders. These include environmental protection and workers' rights.
