Big rise in West Midlands unemployment Unemployment in the West Midlands has risen by 18.6 per cent in the past three months, new figures have revealed - the biggest increase anywhere in England. The region's jobless total now stands at 249,000 - up 39,000 from 210,000 the previous quarter. The unemployment rate in the region is now 9.3 per cent. What we don't need is a return the 80's!

Visitors from across Europe will line the streets of Wells today for the funeral of the last survivor of World War I. ‘The War to end all wars’ or what some historians called the first of Europe’s two great civil wars of the 20th century will be marked by representatives of all the combatant nations. Radiohead have composed a song to Harry Patch’s lyrics which is a moving tribute to a lifelong anti-war campaigner.
