Deputy leader visits Leicester by-election

8 September 2009

Adrian Ramsay, the Green Party's deputy leader, will visit Leicester later today, in advance of the Castle ward by-election on the 10th September.

Dave Dixey, our candidate in the by-election, grew up in Leicester and has lived in Castle ward for the last 20 years. He has been a pub landlord and promoted local bands and has also helped run the Abbey Park Music Festival. He currently works on home environmental assessments for Britiish Gas.

Adrian Ramsay said: "Green councillors in Leicester have made a real impact since they were elected in May 2007. They have brought a fresh voice to the Council and pushed through policies to improve road safety and insulate more people's homes."

"A Labour victory on Thursday would just increase their majority on the Council. A Green victory would ensure that Greens can continue to put forward their fresh ideas."

"It seems the Labour administration in Leicester is being slow to implement the 20mph speed limits for residential streets that Green councillors persuaded the Council to back. If Dave Dixey is elected, the Green Party will be able to challenge Labour to make road safety apriority for the whole city."

Ramsay, the opposition leader on Norwich city council, will speak to local journalists, and participate in door-to-door canvassing with Dave Dixey, in the afternoon and evening.
