Brighton & Hove Greens on inequality

9 August 2011

This week, Radio 4's Westminster Hour interviewed Bill Randall, Green leader of Brighton and Hove City Council.

In the interview, Randall outlined the Green approach to inequality, why he left Labour, and the Green approach to government.

On inequality, Randall said:

"In Brighton and Hove, we're working on the introductions of the beginnings of a living wage for the city, which is going to be very hard work.

"We have a plan to raise the wage of the very lowest paid workers in the council by about 60p an hour.

"We are talking also to the private sector and to other public sector bodies and we're going to set up a living wage commission which will look at the options we have for the future once we are taking this first step.

"We are also committed within the council to reducing the differential between the lowest paid to the lowest paid to ten to one."

The full interview can be listened to here until 10:40pm, 14th August 2011.
