Greens now bookies' favourites to win Brighton Pavilion constituency

11 December 2009

Three major bookmakers have all made the Green Party favourites to win the Brighton Pavilion constituency.

Skybet, Paddy Power and William Hill all have Green candidate and party leader Caroline Lucas as favourite to pip the Tories into second place, with Labour trailing in third.

William Hill have Caroline at 6/4 to win Pavilion with the Tories on 13/8 and Labour on 2/1. The Lib Dems trail poorly at 66/1.
Paddy Power and Skybet both have the Greens on 11/8 to win the seat - which would be their first seat at Westminster, and a huge boost to the Party. Ladbrokes have the Tories and Greens as joint favourites.

Caroline Lucas said: "This is brilliant news, and demonstrates really clearly that more and more people think the Greens are on course to win here in Brighton Pavilion.
"Contrary to what Labour will tell you, it's very clear that a vote for the Greens is also the best choice for those who want to keep the Conservatives out of Brighton."

Campaign Director Paul Steedman added "This backs up what we have been hearing on doorsteps - people want their voices to be heard and feel that the Green Party are listening in Brighton Pavilion."
