Green Party: ‘we can’t go backwards on sexual health ’

THE GREEN Party is backing a new campaign focused on contraception.

FPA and Brook have launched XES – We Can’t Go Backwards; a three year campaign which starts by calling for better access to a full range of contraception across the UK.

Green Party leader Natalie Bennett said: ‘’ This is an important campaign. Britain has a high rate of unplanned pregnancies and studies show that women and men are not well informed of the contraceptive options available to them.

"With local authorities taking responsibility for NHS contraceptive services in GPs and clinics in March next year, it's critical that the importance of these services is highlighted."

XES – We Can’t Go Backwards will investigate the effects of sexual health and contraception service closures and reduced opening hours in areas where people can’t access contraception services.

It will include an online interactive map, where people can rate their experience of the services in their area, as well as a sexual health ‘Bill of Rights’ to help people campaign for more services in their local area.

A campaign spokesperson said: ‘Contraceptive choice is a right. We’re asking people to add their voice to the campaign by telling us about their experiences of accessing contraception and work with us to demand better.’
