Will Duckworth: We need our education system to encourage greater community intergration
Green Party spring conference in Liverpool (28 Feb to 3 Mar) passes changes to education policy
Will Duckworth, lead European election candidate for the West Midlands Green Party, said today: “Today, we’ve passed Green Party policy that, like the NHS, education should be free at the point of delivery, for people of all ages.”
“Green Party councillors across the West Midlands will oppose any attempt to privatise state-funded schools or for schools to make a profit.
“We have admissions policies from a mix of local authority, private, faith, grammar, academy and free schools. What we need is a comprehensive education system, with fair and balanced admissions, that encourages greater community integration.”
Other Green Party policies on education passed today include:
- Schools to set up Parent Forums or Parent Councils, to encourage accountability and improve communication.
- All state-funded schools need sufficient funding to offer smaller classes and a varied curriculum.
- Replace OFSTED with an independent National Council of Educational Excellence, with regional officers tasked to work closely with local authorities
