The Green Party has launched a Breakthrough Appeal (1) that offers Green Party members and supporters the opportunity to change UK politics forever ahead of the May 7th General Election.

The Green Party, the third largest political party in England and Wales with over 56,500 members, approaches the General Election polling at its highest levels in a generation and on track to break politics wide open via the ballot box on May 7th.

At a Green fundraising event to be held in London on the 28th of March, 150 donors to the Breakthrough Appeal, and other separate crowdfunding appeals, who have given £10 or more, will be randomly selected to attend a 'Wear Something Green’ thank you event. Green Party Leadership and candidates will attend the exciting, inclusive event.

In all interaction with membership and supporters, the Green Party is committed to transparency and democracy. At the Party’s recent Spring Conference, Natalie Bennett, Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, Caroline Lucas, Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, and Deputy Leaders Amelia Womack and Dr Shahrar Ali spent time interacting with attendees at a series of walkarounds and Q&A events.

Bennett said:

“Green Party members and supporters are the lifeblood of the Party and have been powering a remarkable Green surge from the grassroots. I look forward to meeting our generous donors at the ‘Wear Something Green’ event and hearing about how we can all share Green values and policies wider and wider.”

Tom Beckett, Green Party Fundraising and Operations Director, said:

“The Green Party launched the Breakthrough Appeal to raise the money necessary to stand more candidates than ever before and potentially boost our representation in Parliament next year. We look forward to welcoming our supporters to the 'Wear Something Green' event and hearing their thoughts on how we can move forward together to achieve real change for the common good.”

The Green Party is currently conducting a wide range of fundraising activities across our membership and supporters involving a variety of crowdfunding, appeals and events. As part of these activities the Party planned to hold a ticketed dinner event for donors. After feedback from our membership, supporters and donors, the Green Party Executive decided not to proceed with that event. The Party always welcomes supporters’ help to instruct our approach to fundraising."

The Breakthrough Appeal has already raised £620,000 with a target of £1.13million.
