In the run up to the General Election we will be giving you the opportunity to get to know some of our candidates. Our key candidates and spokespeople can be found here.

This year we will be standing in over 90% of seats in England and Wales.

Our candidate for Leeds North West: Tim Goodall

Why are you standing for the Green Party in Leeds North West?

I am standing for the Green Party in Leeds North West because I want to live in a more equal world, where every person should be entitled to basic material security, free from discrimination.  I am horrified by the way the current government is treating the most vulnerable people in our society and I don't think that other parties are doing nearly enough to challenge them.

What are your top three priorities if elected?

My three top priorities if elected are: a) campaign to keep the NHS public and work to get the NHS Reinstatement Bill passed b) Make good quality education free and accessible to all people at all levels, reducing the stress levels of teachers and students by decreasing the number of tests that have to be taken c) Ensure that there is considerably more quality, affordable housing available.

What made you want to get involved in politics?

I wanted to get involved in politics after working as a teacher in Jamaica, seeing the extreme inequality of society there and realising that the same was beginning to happen here.

What's your favourite thing about your constituency?

My favourite thing about Leeds North West is that there is such a good sense of community.  People invest in their community and look after each other.  There is always such a wide range of interesting events happening, too.

Who is your political hero?

My political hero is Martin Luther King Jr.  This was reinforced recently by seeing Selma.  He knew that he was constantly putting his life at risk, but still fought for what he believed in.
