Greens slam Tory 'half-measure' on train fares

10 April 2015

The Green Party has today accused the Tories of pledging only 'half-measures' on tackling the spiralling cost of train travel.

Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party, said:

"Cameron's pledge on fares offers little comfort to already squeezed rail commuters. It's another half-measure offered by a Prime Minister who's unwilling to take the bold action needed to cut the cost of using public transport.

"The Green Party is proposing to reduce rail fares by 10% - paid for cutting the huge budget for building new roads in Britain.

"We also need to address the systematic problems plaguing our profit driven rail system. Only the Green Party want the railways in public hands. When the current franchises expire we should end this failed experiment in privatised rail."
