Greens Launch Youth Manifesto

20 April 2015

This morning (20th April) Natalie Bennett launched the Green Party's Youth Manifesto at Kentish Town Community Centre. The manifesto contains pledges to:

-Create 2,000 new Young People's Centres
-Invest an extra £1.1 billion annual funding in youth services
-Scrap tuition fees
-Bring back Educational Maintenance Allowance
-Scrap benefits caps and sanctions

At the launch event Green Party leader Natalie Bennett and deputy leader Amelia Womack spoke to young people about the election and set out the Green Party's key commitments for young people.

Amelia Womack said:
''Last week saw the announcement that the Young Greens has the largest youth section of any of the political parties.

"I feel that when young people are given something to vote for then, just as we experienced with the Scottish referendum, they engage and participate. It's clear that the policies set out in this Youth Manifesto - an end to austerity, an end to tuition fees, and real solutions to the housing crisis - are proving that the Green Party can inspire a political generation.

"As a young person, I think it's vital that we put the next generation at the heart of our policies - and I'm proud that the Green Party does that."

The membership of the Young Greens has grown more than tenfold in just over a year. The Young Greens now have over 17,700 members, making them the largest youth party in the UK. The Green Party has been consistently polling in second and third place among young people and students.

While Labour have sought to court this vote by pledging to reduce tuition fees to £6,000 per year, the Green Party would not only scrap fees altogether, but would write off all existing student debt – making life easier for students and graduates across the country who have already accumulated a significant burden of debt.
