Green Party’s strong showing in polls so far

*Greens receive 11.6% in Oxford East and 10.2% in Islington North

*First ever Green deposit saved in Wales

*Greens on 3.8% in English and Welsh seats announced so far

The Green Party has surged by 9.2% in Oxford East and 7.1% in Islington North. Anne Duncan and Caroline Russell received 11.6% and 10.2% respectively. The party has received 3.8% of the vote in the English and Welsh seats with Green candidates that have announced their results so far, compared with the 1% it received overall in 2010.

The Greens also saved a deposit in Wales for the first time ever, after receiving 5.6% in Ceredigion.

The announced results have put the Green Party in third place in Oxford East, Islington North and Tooting, and seen five deposits saved. Just six Green deposits were saved in total in 2010.

These strong results reflect the Green Surge, which has seen Green Party membership more than quadruple in less than a year, to reach over 62,000 in England and Wales alone. The Green Party is standing candidates in almost 95% of seats, and its vote share is expected to be three-four times larger than in 2010.

The Green Party received:

Oxford East: 10.2% (5,890 votes)

Islington North: 11.6% (5,043 votes)

Ceredigion: 5.6% (2,088 votes)

Tooting: 4.1% (2,201 votes)
