Natalie Bennett: Tackling climate change must be at the 'centre of every policy'

25 September 2015

* Tackling climate change must be at the “centre of every policy”

“The rotten politics, the old politics, is in its last throes."

* Green Party is the "natural home of the community campaigner"

Natalie Bennett will focus on the urgent need to tackle climate change in her Green Party Autumn Conference Leader's Speech in Bournemouth today (25 September).

Ahead of the Paris climate talks, Bennett will say “dealing with climate change has to be at the centre of every policy, every decision, the responsibility of everyone. If we don’t make that a reality, our children and grandchildren will never forgive us.”

Bennett will also spell out why our “rotten” political and financial system is in urgent need of radical reform. Bennett is expected to say:

“The rotten politics, the old politics, is in its last throes.

“Politics is moving in our direction. Historians will look back and see 2015 as the year change started – the year that a fundamental shift in politics saw it move away from the ‘greed is good, the environment doesn’t matter’ mantra that rose with Margaret Thatcher and will fall with David Cameron.”

Bennett, who led her Party to their best ever General Election result earlier this year, will chart the rise of the “the new politics ... a people’s politics, founded in the grassroots” and outline how the Green Party “is the natural home of the community campaigner”.

Over 30% of attendees joined the Party in the past year and 42% are attending a Green Party Conference for the first time.
