Green Party conference: Bennett to send delegation to join Global Greens at UN climate change conference

27 September 2015

Green Party leader Natalie Bennett will close her party’s Autumn Conference in Bournemouth tomorrow (28 September) by outlining plans to send a Global Green delegation to the United Nations Climate Change talks in Paris to hold the prime minister to account as he takes part in the negotiations. [1]

Bennett will brand David Cameron a “climate change coward”, saying the Tory leader cannot be trusted to travel to Paris in November without visible pressure from Caroline Lucas MP, London mayoral candidate Sian Berry and other hardworking Green politicians.

Bennett will say:

“We’ve heard from many inspiring panellists at our Bournemouth conference on how we can win the fight for climate justice, and after a passionate general election campaign, we’re ready to go forward to win in Paris.

“In my speech to conference, I urged the prime minister to reverse his outrageous decision to appoint a fossil fuel industry insider as his key adviser on energy and environment. He hasn’t, and that proves David Cameron is a climate change coward.

“The only way Cameron will seriously tackle climate change is if he feels the pressure of a travelling Green delegation.

“The leaders of Green Parties from all over the world will be in Paris to create a Global Green push for success at the UN Climate Change talks and a strong team from our party, including Caroline Lucas, will be there to make sure David Cameron doesn’t forget his obligations.”
