PRESS STATEMENT BY THE GREEN PARTY AND TONY CLARKE, FOREIGN AFFAIRS SPOKESPERSON

17 November 2015

IN an interview on this morning’s 5 Live Breakfast Show, on BBC Radio 5 Live, Tony Clarke, as Green Party’s Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, said that that Genel Energy, run by Nathaniel Rothschild, purchased oil from ISIS.

The Green Party and Tony Clarke wish to publicly retract this statement and accept it to be untrue and without foundation. Genel Energy, in which Mr Rothschild is only a shareholder and non-executive director, is a producer of oil in the Kurdistan Region. It is not, and never has been, a purchaser of oil from anyone.

The Green Party and Tony Clarke apologise to Genel Energy for this false statement, which they have withdrawn and have undertaken not to repeat.

This statement is issued on behalf of Tony Clarke and the Green Party.
