On Black Friday, Amelia Womack, Green Party Deputy Leader, said:
“Black Friday defines people as consumers, encourages us to buy goods that could put us into debt, and aims to stoke a shopping frenzy that can have unseen environmental consequences.
"Rather than buying in to the exploitation of the economically insecure, forcing them to buy now and think later, we should be looking at ensuring that the poorest in our society have a decent standard of living and can afford essential items on more than just one Friday a year."
