Green Party to make appeal to business community with launch of new network group

10 February 2016

The Green Party’s new Business Network will launch in central London this week (11 February) with a host of renowned names, including Richard Murphy, the revered political economist whose work on tax activism has been at the forefront of progressive British politics.

Attendees will hear how the government can remove obstacles to businesses becoming more "green" and from the party’s London Mayoral candidate and lead candidate for the London Assembly on her vision for the capital.

Sian Berry said:

“My policies were judged most in tune with small businesses when I first stood for Mayor of London in 2008, and this time round I’m more convinced than ever that we have the right ideas for business as well as for the common good.

“For example my plans to close City Airport and redevelop it as a new quarter for housing and jobs are based on sound business arguments about making the site more productive, and my belief that the southeast of England doesn’t need any new airport runways is also based on listening to what business actually wants, rather than pandering to aviation lobbyists.

“As we go into the London elections and look towards a new chapter in the life of the London Assembly, this is a great time for small businesses and new industries at the front line of building a more sustainable future to pool ideas on what a green future could look like.”

Henry Stewart, the CEO and founder of Happy Computers will host and chair the event [1].

Mr Stewart said:

“With my business, I want to make a difference. The aim is to help people reach their potential in a happy workplace where they can feel fulfilled. It’s not just about the environment, though that’s important, it’s about treating everybody you work with well - staff, suppliers even competitors. It’s about thinking about the impact of what you do and seeking to help create a better world.

“I’m really looking forward to chairing this Green Party event. There are now a lot of businesses out there who want to contribute to creating sustainable communities and a sustainable society. The creation of this network lets us get together to network, share ideas and increase our impact.”
