The Green Party has named Molly Scott Cato MEP, currently the party’s finance and economics spokesperson, as its speaker on issues relating to UK-EU relations and in particular the forthcoming negotiations over Britain’s exit.
This comes after David Davis, a prominent Brexiteer, was appointed Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union by Theresa May.
Scott Cato, a prominent member of the Green Party’s campaign to remain in the European Union, said:
“The referendum campaign may be over, but this is just the start of a crucial fight to ensure that we get the best deal possible for Britain in the negotiations to come.
“The Green Party will be holding the government to account every step of the way - demanding protection of free movement and the single market, guarantees for the rights of non-British nationals already living here, keeping minimum EU standards for workers’ rights and environmental legislation, and protecting funding to improve opportunities for young people.
“In June, a majority voted to leave the European Union - and it is right that they are listened to. But progressives must continue to campaign against an ultra-right version of Brexit that would ravage our rights, our environment and our future.”
