Voting opens in Green Party leadership contest

25 July 2016

Voting is now open in the elections for the next leader(s) and deputy leader(s) of the Green Party, as well as for members of the party’s National Executive committee.

The contest will run until the 25th August, and the new leadership team will be formally announced at the party’s Autumn Conference in Birmingham. (1)

Natalie Bennett announced earlier this year that she will not be standing for re-election, and there are seven candidates in the race to succeed her.

Speaking on her decision not to re-stand, Natalie said:

“It's been a privilege and a honour to have the title ‘leader of the Green Party’, but every member of the Green Party is a leader, helping to lead the way towards a society in which we live within our environmental limits while ensuring no one fears hunger or want.”

A full list of candidates can be found on the party’s website. (2)
