Green Party calls for urgent action to tackle ‘entrenched’ race inequality

18 August 2016

We must take urgent action to “heal our divided society”, Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett has said after a report found black and ethnic minority people in Britain face "entrenched" race inequality [1].

The Equality and Human Rights Commission found black graduates earn almost a quarter less than their white peers, more ethnic minorities face unemployment, and black people are more likely to be victims of crime.

As a result the Green Party said “great talent” is going untapped.

Bennett said:

“These findings put into figures the stark inequality black and minority ethnic people face every single day.

“The Government must take urgent action to tackle systematic inequality so that everyone has an equal stake in life.

“Great talent remains untapped in Britain because of inequality, whilst many communities face poverty, exclusion and marginalisation.

“This is unacceptable and we must do everything in our power to heal our divided society.”
