* Ralph Steadman: ‘Green issues should be the first consideration in everything from housing, to health to education and beyond’
Leading artists including Grayson Perry, Ralph Steadman and Andy Goldsworthy have donated pieces of artwork to support the Green Party.
The pieces will be displayed as part of ‘Green Creates…’, a week-long exhibition featuring work by more than 50 artists [1].
‘Green Creates…’ is an opportunity for the arts community to show their support for the Green Party. Artists contributed work on the theme ‘Green Voices’, expressing their opinions on everything from climate change to the beauty of nature.
Ralph Steadman, who contributed a piece of work titled ‘Environment’ from his ‘Cabinet of the Mind’ collection, said without the work of Green action groups “we may not even be here now”.
Ralph Steadman said:
“All parties should support the Green Party, it should be part of everything we do. Green suggests healthy options and therefore healthy outcomes. Green issues should be the first consideration in everything from housing, to health to education and beyond.
“I abhor cruelty in any form and my work has always had within it the seeds of protest against inhumanity and offences against the planet.”
Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Green Party, said:
“With politics still fracturing and our country divided by inequality and fear the work of the Green Party is more important now than ever. Green Creates is an opportunity for the arts community to show their support, but it is also an example of art as an important commentary on what is happening at a time of huge economic and political unrest.”
Caroline Lucas, co-leader and MP for Brighton Pavilion, said:
“Without the backing of our members, friends and supporters the Green Party's vital work would be impossible. We are hugely grateful to the artists who have generously donated their time and work to this exhibition, and to all who work tirelessly to make sure our country has a strong, Green opposition.”
The exhibition will be held at the Hoxton Arches, 402 Cremer St, London E2 8HD from Wednesday October 19 until Monday October 24.
There will also be live art performances, DJ sets and community engagement activities throughout the week. For full opening times [2] and more information visit: https://www.facebook.com/events/1679491772378791/
