Green Party: Passport checks for health care distract from real cause of NHS crisis

* Jonathan Bartley: ‘The Government should stop fiddling with the lock on the front door while the roof is caving in.’

The Green Party has responded to news today that patients could have to show their passports to get NHS care. [1]

Jonathan Bartley, Green Party co-leader, said:

“The NHS is in the midst of a deep funding crisis. People are being treated in corridors, waiting weeks to see a doctor and suffering the effects of the privatisation that’s gripped our health service. By attacking health tourism, which has a negligible effect on the NHS, officials are clearly trying to distract the public from the real issues we’re facing.

“The Government must not be allowed to bury the disastrous funding situation that’s been unveiled by blaming foreign born NHS users. If they’re serious about fixing our NHS then Ministers will fund it properly, end privatisation, and stop waving around the false solution of draconian passport checks.
