Green Party stands in solidarity with CitySprint courier seeking employee status

22 November 2016

Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Green Party, has called on CitySprint to recognise its couriers as employees as rider Mags Dewhurst takes the firm to tribunal in a fight for basic rights.

Bartley said:

“I stand in full solidarity with Mags Dewhurst as she fights for her rights. CitySprint should fulfil its moral and legal duty and acknowledge Mags, and all its riders, as an employee with the basic rights that come with that status, such as holiday and sick pay.

“The gig-economy facilitates the exploitation of workers. I have repeatedly called on Theresa May to publish the Coalition’s shelved review into employment law status.

“It is imperative the Government tightens the law so gig-economy workers are no longer left to fend for themselves in the way Mags will do today.”
