Green Party responds to Government plans to make companies publish pay ratios

29 November 2016

Jonathan Bartley, Green Party co-leader, has welcomed news the Government plans to make companies publish pay ratios [1].

The party publishes its own pay ratio, of 3.6:1, on its website [2].

Bartley said:

"One of the biggest challenges that this Government faces is to make our workplace fit for purpose in the Twenty First Century, with meaningful and rewarding jobs in which everyone feels they have a stake.

"It is common sense that the Government should take seriously the growing evidence that lower pay ratios benefit companies. The Green Party has long campaigned for a 10:1 ratio to address the damage done by bosses taking home huge sums while their workers live in poverty.” [3]

Bartley also called on Theresa May to keep her promise to put workers on company boards.

He said:

"Greater equality is what we should all be working towards both inside and outside the workplace. That is why Theresa May’s broken promise about putting workers on company boards is also a serious setback, employees should have a proper stake in their workplace, and that includes a seat at the decision-making table. This is what May pledged and what she should deliver if she is serious about making the world of work better for everyone.”
