The global community will not allow Donald Trump’s appointment of fossil fuel friend Scott Pruitt [1] to halt the fight against climate change, the Green Party has said.
Jonathan Bartley, co-leader, said:
“Donald Trump’s decision to appoint climate denier and fossil fuel friend Scott Pruitt as head of his environment department is a reckless decision and highlights how Trump is out of touch with an international community increasingly committed to tackling climate change.
“The Paris Agreement is an example of what we can do when we work together. But with the effects of climate change being felt all over the world, and worrying variations in both Arctic and Antarctic sea ice levels, it is clear that we must do more, not less, to tackle the greatest threat the world faces.
“Just as surely as climate change is real, the action to halt it and transition to a low carbon global economy that creates the climate security we need is unstoppable.
“The announcement comes one day after the Green Party launched a campaign to kick fossil fuels out of politics in the UK [2]. If Trump won't show leadership in this, others in the global community certainly will.”
