Green Party deputy leader welcomes scrapping of M4 link road

4 June 2019

Green Party Deputy Leader Amelia Womack has welcomed the decision by the First Minister to scrap the M4 relief road (1).

Amelia said: “This is fantastic news that the First Minister will scrap the M4 relief road. This is a powerful action to protect our previous biodiversity as well as to ensure we're tackling our carbon emissions so we remain below 1.5 degrees of warming.

“Mark Drakeford now needs to ensure there's proper investment in public transport networks to reduce the volume of traffic and help reduce congestion in the area.

“I hope that parliament and councils will follow in Wales's footsteps and recognise that new road building programmes are a 1960s vision that isn't fit for the demands of the 21st century.”
