Labour and Plaid have failed Wales on economy, say Greens

Disastrous Assembly policies have failed to bridge the gap between Wales and England

As the gap between earnings in Wales and England continues to grow, the Green Party has launched an attack on the Welsh Assembly’s economic policy, claiming it lacks ambition and nous.

Jake Griffiths, Wales Green Party leader and candidate for South Wales Central said:

“These figures show the consequences of the Assembly’s fixation with attracting inward investment and pandering to big business. Instead of encouraging local business to develop, it has thrown its resources at footloose multinationals which put us on the direction towards less stable and increasingly competitive jobs.

“Instead, Wales should be focussing on supporting local firms and SMEs which have strong ties to the local economy and provide secure employment, not here today gone tomorrow jobs. This is the only way the Welsh economy will be able to catch up on historic inequities.

“This nation needs an ambitious government that would break away from Westminster’s disastrous economic policies. Greens would redirect the money used to attract big business to invest in the creation of 50,000 local jobs in sustainable enterprises. Not only would this provide the training that would help people to find employment but it would also kick-start the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
